Welcome to CRA

The Colchester Radio Amateurs club was formed in 1963 by a group of tutors and students at the Colchester Technical College (now the Colchester Institute). Meetings were held in the Radio laboratory and concentrated on practical work and measurement, taking advantage of the wide range of equipment available and some expert help.

Since those early days, many changes have taken place.  The range of club activities has expanded. In addition to our regular monthly meetings we also

Participate in contests including HF & VHF with our VHF Contest Group participating in all the major RSGB contests from their Contest site at Walton On The Naze.
Offer training for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Licences.
Produce a monthly newsletter CRA News which is available to view or download from this website and is also free to non members via email. Please see our Newsletter page for more info.

Our program of talks on amateur radio topics utilises expertise available in the club and from other clubs in the area.

There will be a new 6M net first Sunday of each month.
Herbie, using G3CO net controller, has been trialling the frequencies and modes over the last 8 weeks and we are pleased to announce that a new 6M net will be held on the first Sunday of each month on 50.225 MHz SSB.
Please join in and make this as successful as our other regular nets which can be found in the left column.
