Welcome to CRA

Colchester Radio Amateurs has a long history of supporting radio amateurs in North East Essex since 1963.   Since then the range of activities has changed and expanded.  In addition to our monthly meetings, we also:


Participate in contests including HF & VHF with our VHF Contest Group participating in all the major RSGB contests from their Contest site at Walton On The Naze.
Offer training for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Licences.
Produce a monthly newsletter CRA News which is available to view or download from this website and is also free to non members . Please see our Newsletter page for more info.
Announcement.

It is with great sadness and shock that we have to report club member Steven Legg M0SKL, became silent key on Thursday Nov 1st after a short stay in hospital.

Sincere condolences to the family and brother Kevin M0KEB, our thoughts are with you.

Steve’s funeral will be at Weely Crematorium on Tuesday 27th November at 1.15pm, the wake will be held at Thorpe le Soken Social club, Station road afterwards.

The funeral is family only flowers

There will be charity boxes for Colchester Hospital Critical Care Unit and the Stroke Association, members are welcome to attend

AFS SUPER LEAGUE
CRA  finished 10th in the 2017/18 results table which was a huge jump from the 56th place in 2016/17. Well done to all who contributed to this success. Thanks for taking part.

NEW  M7XXX Calls issued so if you hear it, why not work it. Lets welcome the new license holders to our fantastic hobby. There is also news of 2x0xx short calls being issued to try and spur people on to take their intermediates!
* UPDATE *
There is talk that the RSGB/Ofcom have issued the 2 letter suffix calls mistakenly and are currently trying to resolve the situation. More as we get it.

 October AGM  MEETING
Following an introduction by Chairman Barry M0LWM, the Chairmans Trophy was presented to Caroline 2E0SXH for her enthusiasm and thirst for new modes, Herbie then presented a mug to George G1IPU for consistently being first on nets. Following  reports including the freezing of subs for yet another year, the dissolution of the committee took place and all those standing were elected on bloc with no other nominations being received.

   80M CC RESULTS NOW IN
Colchester RA in 4th place.
Well done to all those who took part in this years 80m CC event, thanks to you all we managed to climb from kast years 9th to a very good 4th.

Our next task is to better last years position in the Autumn Series which starts on Monday 10th September, hope you can join in.

CQ WW DX SSB
A team of intrepid contest hopefuls set up on the clifftop at The Naze on Friday 26th October ready for the start at midnight Sat 27th.
The call G3CO was used in an attempt to regain the short contest call for the club.
Despite some horrific wind and conditions the overall result was good.

During the year we hold regular club meets with various topics being covered on the third Thursday of each month. We have a Field Day in July (ask committee member for details) an evening at The Observatory in August, an Inter Club Quiz with HARIG & 2 Special Event Stations at The Naze, Walton.
